An interesting post, Paul, thanks. It looks like my fear or bass loading of this room were not accidental. If I get this room then it would be even worse in my case. Your have solid slab floor –something that I would like to have. But this house ...
Mani, my first thoughts were questions, whether you want to fill the room "like headphones fill your head" or you want to aim the speakers right at your ears and "do the mixing inside your head, like headphones".
Hi Paul,M...
This also
explains the isobaric setup of both drivers. They use a conventional closed rear
cabine. And radiate properly loaded into the horn.
Sorry, I did not understand the loading you
described, I thought it is ...
Above shows what is possible (more or less) in terms of pressure. It shows the horn will not provide pressure below 50 cycles. And this is likely to be true. It will not magically appear out of nowhere. This does not exclu...

Romy, I often work with materials like this, for specialized restoration and reinforcement projects, and I have used it for my own speakers, as well. You mention ~ 1/2" thickness, and indeed thickness is an important consideration in selecting most o...
Attentuators plugged directly into the RCA jacks sounds like good solution for balance control
Do not forget that you do not need the attenuators but juts one attenuator that you would plug on right OR on left. Also,...

Thank you both.
My loading is pretty small since the 2A3 SET amps take only about 250VA total.
Add to it tubed phono and DAC/transport and it is still not much.
I may be getting bass units, each with its own plate amp. These can be
a few hu...

An electrical engineer who works for the power company (and who has no interest in hi-fi) was incredulous that I did not know that all "conditioners" and "regenerators" are aimed at a specific type of load, at least in terms of their ability to do wh...

Novygera,If you are really going to run a single-ended pentode as a pentode (not triode-strapping the screen grid) then you will almost certainly need to use some negative feedback, whether global or local. It is partly needed to reduce distortion, ...

First of all, thanks for additional detail. As mentioned I can speak only for my Fidelity Research XF-1 (30dB). Loading it on secondary as you mentioned, it ALSO damps the trannie - result in my case: less resolution. Primary loading is MUCH more sen...

I have coved this subject in past. I was not able to find a solution how to add resistors to change loading and how to make it to be switched that would not degrade sound. So, my own phonocorrector has no adjustable loading. If I need to do it I woul...

N-set, you've certainly earned the right to enjoy your gear! Again, which SUT will you use? No practical way to measure ESR, etc. on this, I suppose...When you first posted on the "problem" curve, I was thinking (to myself...) "RCL"/reactive load. ...

Yes, it is time again for me, too, as soon as my amps get back from United Radio. Among many choices to make, which music to target?
OT, Robin, I think every trumpet player I've ever known has had a hernia. Hope all goes well for you, but WTF?

R1 (green/brown/orange or yellow/violet/orange) needs to be paralleled with a 12k resistor to bring the loading seen by the cart to just under 100 ohms.

What would be good place to start? I am using custom built 834P and S&B 103s. Also, my tonearm is 9-inch SME M2, should I put some additional weight on it?Thank you....

I keep thinking about the type of the loading the guy from Germany
used. I am not sure if I agree with Josh that the absence of front chamber if
the key for the success that Josh describes. Let analyze it.
The front chamber for LF drivers is not...

I never feel comfortable with corner-loading despite that the best midbass I even heard was coming from corner-loaded horns. The corner-loading is so much room specific and it is so imposable to do anything with it that it become a very ugly lotter...

Good advice, to be sure.I have chosen the most "neutral", "tape-like" MC I have found, but of course it remains a phono cartridge/transducer... Meanwhile, I just checked VTF on a hunch and was annoyed to find that at some point&n...
Also i stick a 30k resistor in R3 and the results are very good.
R3 is Milq’s loading resistor and it hardly to do anything with amp itself. Milq has own input loading is floating on the bias chains and it has a ...
It will be a little project to modify the amplifier, but it may be educational. To optimize the Moondog circuit for the NOS 2A3 tubes, so they will give their best, I plan to buy a new OPT with primary impedance around 3.5-4K. [/...
Today I used the re-capped/improved K&K phonostage as a source and I drove the speakers first from 8 Ohm and then from 16 Ohm taps, and I got a very pleasant surprize...... .It certainly gave a clue as to why Romy would opt a...

Discussing the Jessie project we multiple times mention the idea of the large midbass horn handing above MF section. Where else the 7”-9” might be positioned? The rational was to have it positionally contra-react the output of the upperbass horn. It ...

Thanks, Romy. I did notice that there is more "apparent volume" at the same gain setting on the pre, and harmonics certainly come into better perspective. Also, the image opens up more vertically, which is a nice effect. I could alw...

I Romy I have readone of your posts that you sent or posted and I am beginning to get a bit of a grip of what you are saying but will continue to read the other thread also. I guess at this point I should really use the tool I have and see what if an...

Alex, as I wrote I use Z-foils at the primaries of mu SUT's. I'm not sure if colder is the world *I* would use. I'm after immediacy and transparency and this is what they gave me. Also widening tonal discrimination, hearable esp with solo piano. ...

I load my 901 with 42K that behind my transformer that makes it 68R. It’s given that I always tend to load my cartridges slightly harder: have my reasons. I would suggest to load 901 with ~80-90R. The load of 510R suggests that something is tonally/m...

Are you absolutely sure that the headshell mass loading you use has not had an effect on the life of this cartridge?I have my reasons for asking but the explanation is too convoluted to write at this moment!...

Hi Romy, did you experiment with either primary or secondary SUT loading using your various carts? If so would you mind to share any of your findings? Thanks,AxelPS: Not sure if you have any 'knowledge tree' info about MM carts, or are you still of you...
